Valeda® Light Therapy for Dry AMD

Delray Eye Associates is proud to offer Valeda®, the first FDA-authorized light therapy designed to improve visual acuity in eligible patients with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Valeda uses photobiomodulation (PBM) technology to support retinal cell function through a non-invasive treatment experience.

Unlike injections or surgery, Valeda treatment uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity within the retina. Treatment is performed in our office and allows patients to return to their normal activities immediately afterward.

What Is Dry AMD?

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults over age 50. Dry AMD affects the macula, the central portion of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision.

As dry AMD progresses, patients may experience:

• Blurred central vision
• Difficulty reading
• Trouble recognizing faces
• Reduced contrast sensitivity
• Difficulty seeing in low-light conditions
• Distorted vision

For many years, treatment options for dry AMD were limited. Valeda now offers a new approach for eligible patients diagnosed with early to intermediate dry AMD.

What Is Valeda® Light Therapy?

Valeda uses a technology called photobiomodulation (PBM), which delivers specific wavelengths of light to the retina. This light energy helps support cellular function within retinal tissue affected by dry AMD.

Valeda is:

• Non-invasive
• Injection-free
• Surgery-free
• Dilation-free
• Anesthesia-free

Treatment is performed in the office and typically takes approximately 10 minutes or less per session.

Who May Be a Candidate?

Valeda® may be an option for patients diagnosed with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) who meet specific clinical criteria. A comprehensive retina evaluation is necessary to determine whether this treatment is appropriate for your individual condition.

You may be a candidate if you:

• Have been diagnosed with dry AMD
• Have early to intermediate disease
• Meet certain retinal and visual acuity requirements
• Are looking for a non-invasive treatment option

Our retina specialists will perform a thorough examination and review your retinal imaging to determine whether Valeda® is right for you.

How Does Treatment Work?

Valeda® uses a technology called photobiomodulation (PBM), which delivers specific wavelengths of light to retinal tissue. This light energy is designed to support cellular function within the retina and help improve visual acuity in eligible patients with dry AMD.

Treatment is performed entirely in our office and is designed to be comfortable and convenient.

Patients appreciate that Valeda® is:

• Non-invasive
• Injection-free
• Dilation-free
• Anesthesia-free
• Performed in the office

What to Expect During Treatment

Most treatment sessions take approximately 10 minutes or less.

Treatment is typically delivered as a series of sessions over several weeks according to the FDA-authorized treatment protocol. Our team will explain your treatment schedule and answer any questions before you begin.

Because no injections, anesthesia, or dilation are required, patients are generally able to resume normal activities immediately following treatment.
